There are several “hippy” style markets on Ibiza where visitors can shop for locally made art and crafts, clothes, shoes, jewellery, organic produce and much more - and have their palms read or tuck into an authentic meal while being entertained by live music or DJ.
Here are some of them. They are all scheduled to open during the holiday season and some open all year.
Punta Arabi Hippy Market
Punta Arabi market, in the small resort of Es Cana on the north-east coast, began in 1973 and is the oldest and biggest hippy market in Ibiza. Up to 500 traders will set up their stalls along winding paths under pine trees every Wednesday.
Las Dalias Hippy Market
At peak times the tiny village of Las Dalias can get thousands of visitors to its laid-back hippy market on Saturdays. Mime acts, live music, a Moroccan tea tent and local food add to the fun. An atmospheric evening market is held there in July and August.
Playa d'en Bossa Street Market
There’s an artisan street market every evening in Playa d’en Bossa. Shoppers are entertained by street pantomimes and musicians as they browse the 60 or more stalls set up along traffic-free streets. It usually runs from 6pm to 11pm.
Sant Joan
The tranquil village of Sant Joan holds a market every Sunday where an art gallery, live music and the cooking of a massive paella add to the market atmosphere.
Sant Jordi
A massive flea market is held at a racing stadium at Sant Jordi near the airport every Saturday. It is said that it’s possible to find just about anything you may want for a good price. It closes at 2.30pm.
San Rafael
Ceramics and other handicrafts are the focus of an artisan market in San Rafael, a village in the middle of the island, every Thursday evening.
Cala Llonga
A small artisan market specialising in handicrafts, jewellery and clothes is held near the beach in the small resort of Cala Llonga on the north-east coast on Thursday evenings.
